The Heart Behind the Freedom Run

Iggy's Story

A Legacy of Service and Dedication

Gregg "Iggy" Miller (1946-2013)

Gregg "Iggy" Miller was the heart and soul of road racing in Ocala, Florida, serving as race director of what is now known as Iggy's Four on the Fourth for 16 years. Taking over the race in 1998 when it was called the Ocala Jaycees God and Country Day Freedom Run, Iggy transformed it into a beloved community tradition that continues to honor his legacy today.

A Life of Service

A dedicated public servant, Iggy retired as a Captain/Executive Officer after 30 years with the Ocala Police Department and served an additional 14 years with the U.S. Marshal Service. His commitment to protecting and serving our community spanned over four decades.

Champion of the Running Community

His passion for running extended far beyond organizing the July 4th race—he was instrumental in establishing the Ocala Marathon and helped coordinate numerous other races throughout the area. Under his leadership, the Freedom Run became a cornerstone event that brought together runners of all abilities to celebrate our nation's independence.

A Man of Many Passions

Beyond his commitment to law enforcement and the running community, Iggy was an avid classic car enthusiast who restored MGs to award-winning condition, including a 1960 MGA that earned first place at the national level. His attention to detail and dedication to excellence shone through in everything he touched.

"Known for his warm personality and genuine care for others, Iggy never met a stranger and touched countless lives with his kind and loving spirit."

A Lasting Legacy

Iggy passed away on December 27, 2013, after battling cancer. The race was renamed in his honor to ensure that his dedication to the Ocala running community and his spirit of service would continue to inspire runners for generations to come.

Every step taken during the Freedom Run honors Iggy's memory and continues his mission of bringing people together in celebration of freedom, fitness, and community.
